What Is a Root Canal?

In this video, Dr. Tracie Battle explains what a root canal is and how it can help save an infected tooth.

A root canal is needed when you have an infected tooth with infection near the nerve, or when a cavity is so deep that it reaches the nerve, and the only way to save the tooth is with a root canal. The procedure involves removing the infected or inflamed nerve, disinfecting the space, placing a filling inside the root, and then rebuilding the tooth. In most cases, a crown is placed on top to restore and protect the tooth.
